What does "Postpartum" mean?
The Mirriam-Webster dictionary defines postpartum as "occurring in or being the period following childbirth." The postpartum period is a time of great change for infants, parents, and their families. So often parents find themselves feeling underprepared for this transition and its challenges. This website focuses on information for the first hours, days, weeks, and months of your baby's life. Utilize the drop-down menus to find information on a wealth of topics related to the postpartum period. Why was this site developed? For most people, particularly those expecting their first baby, much attention is paid to preparing for the birth. Many of us choose a provider, find a doula or support person, and make a birth plan. We know that birth is a big event, and we plan accordingly. But what about after your baby is born? What about the round the clock care your newborn needs from birth through the first year, and beyond? So often parents find themselves with more questions than answers in the first days, weeks, or sometimes months of their baby's life. This site was designed to bring all of the most common questions, concerns, and resources together in one easy to access place.
